Individual DSE Assessments by Fit4Work

The Display Screen Equipment (DSE) regulations require DSE assessments to be conducted for all users of display screen equipment.

Fit4Work can offer either a basic DSE assessment for a large number of employees, which can take up to 30 minutes per person, or provide an advanced workstation assessment for an employee who has a complex medical problem or suffers from a chronic musculoskeletal issue(s).

Fit4Work provides a detailed report outlining the findings of the assessment, changes made, information given and recommendations. These comprehensive assessments enable businesses to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 and protect their most valuable asset: their employees.

Fit4Work provides DSE Assessments in Yorkshire for companies such as UK Border Agency, BBC, ITV, HM Revenue & Customs, DVLA, The British Library, Royal College of Nursing, The Insolvency Service and Department of Work and Pensions.

Fit4Work can provide workstation risk assessments in Leeds and the Yorkshire region.

What are DSE Assessments?

Taking up to 30 minutes per employee, Fit4Work’s basic assessments begin with asking some general questions to ascertain how long the individual spends at their desk at any one time, the tasks they are required to complete at their workstation, and if the individual is suffering from any musculoskeletal issues or experience discomfort at their workstation.

After observing the employee at their workstation, the assessor, Chartered Physiotherapist Angela Hinton, will make immediate improvements to the workstation where appropriate, and draw from her extensive knowledge how musculoskeletal injuries are caused and treated to establish necessary adjustments to the individual’s posture, chair, desk or work equipment.

During each basic DSE assessment, a comprehensive report is completed detailing all observations, on-site adjustments made, and any further recommendations required to ensure a safer and healthier working environment for the employee.

Fit4Work’s in-depth DSE assessments, designed for employees with complex medical conditions or musculoskeletal issues, can take up to an hour to complete. Drawing on extensive clinical expertise and a deep understanding of the human body, each assessment explores the root causes of discomfort or injury. This approach ensures that Fit4Work assessments go well beyond basic compliance – delivering a truly personalised, health-focused service that provides significant added value compared to typical DSE assessment providers.

Offering postural advice and on-the-spot adjustments to help ease the individual’s discomfort, Angela will observe them at their workstation completing typical daily tasks, addressing all equipment (screens, mouse, keyboard, chair and desk etc) in her report. Further required adjustments will be added to the report to help create a safer working environment for the employee.

DSE Assessments via Zoom video call

With more employees now working from home or in hybrid roles, it’s essential that their workstations are assessed to prevent discomfort and injury.

Employers are legally required to carry out DSE risk assessments for all staff who regularly use display screen equipment – whether in the office or at home.

Fit4Work offers individual remote DSE assessments via Zoom, providing the same level of detail and expertise as an in-person visit. During the video call, we review posture, equipment setup, and working environment, offering tailored advice and training to minimise the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.

Where possible, we guide employees to make immediate adjustments during the call and follow up with a detailed written report containing practical recommendations.

It’s a fast, effective, and convenient way to ensure your employees are working safely, comfortably, and in compliance with health and safety requirements.
