Case Study Details
NHS Resolution is funded centrally by the Department of Health. It provides expertise to the NHS in resolving concerns and disputes fairly. It operates similarly to how an insurance company would for an individual.
Two delegates attended this one-day course to understand better what is required to conduct individual risk assessments for their staff. They currently rely on a large organisation for support, which is becoming increasingly costly, especially when chairs are recommended for each person they assess. Over £40,000 was estimated to be spent on new chairs alone in a year. They can independently perform these assessments by acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills, ensuring that funding is allocated more effectively elsewhere.
Both delegates confirmed at the end of the course that they felt confident in conducting risk assessments but expressed concern about their inability to visit employees at home, as the majority of them are remote workers. However, an in-depth discussion with Angela Hinton, the Director of Fit4Work who delivered the course, indicated that they could easily assess their employees via Zoom.
A family member or friend could video an employee while they work at their workstation at home. This footage could then be emailed to the assessor for review before the Zoom call, providing a better understanding of the issues.
